DIS-ORDER
The Mission
To break the stigma around mental health issues and inspire people to overcome the challenges they face.
The challenge
A mental health crisis is growing in the West. More than half of Dutch youth (ages 16-25) experience mental health problems to the point where it harms their quality of life (GGD, 2023). More extreme cases that need clinical intervention have nearly doubled in one year between 2020-2021 from 11-18% (CBS, 2022). Poor wellbeing is becoming a huge problem. Meanwhile waiting lists for help are too long and stigma keeps people quiet about their suffering. It’s time we take responsibility and start the conversation. Our clothes lower the barriers to these conversations and have achieved this in 16 countries already.
The solution
We sell clothing and use it as a canvas to make the intangible concepts around mental health tangible for the sake of lowering the barriers around vulnerable conversations. There's proof in the pudding that this works; we've sold to customers across 16 countries, all through people starting conversations and spreading the power of DIS-ORDER through organic word of mouth. We also use the revenue we generate to create practical impact. We donate 20% of our net profits to support mental health charities or sponsor unique projects (currently we're sponsoring the production of a documentary in the US). We also developed workshops with a psychologist that we use to start the conversation at high schools and universities. Finally, we use our online voice to spread awareness online to tens of thousand of people around the globe.
